Historic Jamestowne and Jamestown Settlement

Eileen and I spent the morning at the Historic Jamestown with Garland Land and Marty Carah. We had been to this location in 2012 and had really enjoyed the presentations put on by the park rangers, docents and the archeologists. Unfortunately while the site is the same and still worth visiting there were no rangers or archeologists present and only a couple of docents at the dig site.  A significant portion of the focus on this site is on some of the more famous characters of the period like Pocahontas and Captain John Smith.

Toured the museum and decided to go to the Jamestown settlement for lunch, and to take a look at the reproductions of the three ships that brought the colonists from England in 1607.

Jamestown Settlement is a living history museum run by the Commonwealth of Virginia and in addition to the three ships there are gallery exhibits, a Powhatan Indian village and a period re-creation of the colonists' fort. In the outdoor areas, costumed historical reenactors' were describing and demonstrating daily life in the early 17th century.

I really can’t say enough positive things about this place, it is well worth a visit.

Spotted an Eagles nest in a tree and guess what most of the group was doing?
